Braces are one of the most common methods of straightening teeth.
Tell Me More About Braces!
Braces are one of the most common methods of straightening teeth. Dentists have been using braces (orthodontic technology) for hundreds of years and they are a proven method of improving the alignment of your teeth and jaw relationship, giving you the smile that you always dreamed of!
A Rich History
Braces, as we know them today, were invented by an 18th-century French scientist named Pierre Fauchard – but did you know that the idea of teeth straightening dates back to ancient times? Evidence that the ancient Egyptians used wire braces to correct their teeth alignment has been found on mummies at ancient burial sites! Wearing braces is something humans have been doing for hundreds of years and is now something of a proud tradition.
There Are Lots of Different Types
You know braces when you see them, but did you know that there are over 5 different types of braces? Every person’s mouth is different, so of course, they require different types of care! Some of the most popular types of braces include traditional braces, ceramic (white/clear) braces, Damon braces, clear removable retainer aligners, force appliances and palatal expanders. If you’re unsure what you’ll need, request a consultation appointment with one of our specialist orthodontists about which type of braces is right for you.
Braces Don’t Just Straighten Teeth
Many believe that braces are only for straightening crooked teeth, but they are used for a variety of different oral health purposes. Although having straight teeth is a wonderful thing, braces patients also use the orthodontics to help improve speaking difficulties, breathing issues and problems with chewing and swallowing food. The purpose of braces is to correct the patient’s bite, which can cause them issues (especially earlier in life). Braces really are a treatment that has done a lot of people a lot of good in a lot of different ways!
Millions You Say?
Think you’re alone in wearing braces? Think again! Over 4 million people wear braces in the United States alone, with millions more across the globe. Feeling self-conscious about your braces is a common concern, but we hope you can take comfort in the fact that you’re not alone. In fact, you’re joining multitudes of other people in your journey towards having the smile of your dreams! Just remember they’re only temporary and will do you a lot of good in the long run.
Space Brace
Here’s something you probably didn’t know – the wire that is used in modern braces was developed and tested by NASA to be used in spacecraft! The alloy is called nickel-titanium and was actually created by accident while scientists were trying to develop incredibly heat resistant metals.
A Lot of The Myths Aren’t True…
