Examinations
Kids New Patient Exam
We recommend for all Kids who are new to the practice to start with a New Patient Examination.
The cost of a New Patient Examination with our dental therapists is FREE under the Dental Benefits Program or $45 New Patient Exam Special with a Dentist (Note: Not all our Dentists see Children).
All examinations are tailored to the age of your child are a comprehensive check and upto 45 minutes.
The first visit to the practice is very important for kids, especially if it is their first visit to a dentist. An enjoyable visit sets kids up for the future. It is important to have a positive start and build on this. We do recommend treatment in most cases at the first visit.
Some children are very anxious and it is important to ease the treatment as much as possible and slowly get your child familiarized to our environment.
Kids Recall Patient Exam
If it is determined that orthodontic treatment is necessary, arrangements will then be made for the taking of pre-treatment diagnostic records
3D digital scans of your teeth, Photographs & X-rays
These records provide essential information for diagnosis and treatment planning.
A subsequent consultation appointment can then be arranged to discuss the findings of these records, present a detailed treatment proposal and outline the financial aspects of the proposed treatment.
Teens New Patient Exam
These are made of ceramic and almost disappear in some cases into the teeth. They allow correction of the bite, straightening of the teeth and 3D control of all teeth.
Our 3M Clarity Brackets blend with the colour of your teeth and will resist staining and discolouration throughout your treatment.
Clear braces are wonderful for adults or the older teenager and are a more discreet way to straighten your smile.
Preventative Treatment
Prevention is better than cure.
‘Tooth Decay’ is one of the worlds most prevalent diseases.
Acids produced by certain bacteria breakdown teeth. The acids soften hard tooth surface eventually causing a cavity or a hole.
Children can be particularly susceptible to dental decay. This is often due to diets high in sugar, poor oral hygiene and baby teeth are softer than adult (permanent) teeh.
Prevention starts with risk assessment, then we will provide some small suggestions that will make a big difference to the health of their teeth.
This can include special toothpastes, in chair fluoride treatments, oral hygiene instruction “tooth brushing training” and most importantly regular examinations.
When Should My Child See a Dentist ?
We recommend your child should see a dentist or dental therapist around 6 to 12 months after their first tooth comes through. Usually this is around 2 years of age.
How much Toothpaste should I use ?
Adults should us a ‘pea’ sized amount and younger children should use just a smear of the same strength toothpaste on a small brush. Children should be discouraged from swallowing or eating toothpaste. Tooth brushing should be done twice daily.
Fluoride Varnish
In chair Fluoride Varnish Treatment is a very good way to boost the quality of your enamel for both children and adults. Its quick easy and painless to apply to the teeth and is generally recommended to be done annually or six monthly if you have higher risk factors.
What's so important about Fluoride ?
Fluoride is a natural substance that helps protect our teeth by making them stronger and reducing tooth decay.
Fluoride works in three ways to help protect our teeth from decay:
* Fluoride makes teeth more resistant to decay by strengthening the tooth surface
* Fluoride interferes with the growth of the bacteria which cause cavities
Fluoride helps to repair the early stages of tooth decay.
Sources of Fluoride
Fluoride Toothpaste – one of the most effective widespread method of reducing dental decay. Most fluoridated toothpastes on sale contain at least 1000 ppm of fluoride. This is the recommended strength for adults and children.
Water Fluoridation – Along with brushing twice a day, eating healthy foods and timely check-ups with a dental provider, water fluoridation is a proven public health measure to reduce tooth decay. The World Health Organization and other international and national health and scientific experts endorse water fluoridation as the most effective public health measure for the prevention of dental decay.
Fissure Sealants
These are made of ceramic and almost disappear in some cases into the teeth. They allow correction of the bite, straightening of the teeth and 3D control of all teeth.
Our 3M Clarity Brackets blend with the colour of your teeth and will resist staining and discolouration throughout your treatment.

Emergency
Types Of fillings….
Composite
We recommend your child should see a dentist or dental therapist around 6 to 12 months after their first tooth comes through. Usually this is around 2 years of age.
How do I know I need a Filling ?
Adults should us a ‘pea’ sized amount and younger children should use just a smear of the same strength toothpaste on a small brush. Children should be discouraged from swallowing or eating toothpaste. Tooth brushing should be done twice daily.

Kids Crowns
Stainless Steel crowns are used to cover deciduous teeth that are heavily broken down or decayed, where a filling is not suitable.
They are much stronger than a filling and generally last until the baby tooth exfoliates (falls out)
Pulpotomy
If a hole in a tooth goes deep into the tooth it can sometimes infect the nerve of the tooth.
This will often result in toothache or an abscess of the tooth.
Early treatment of these teeth is very important as if reached early a procedure called a ‘pulpotomy’ can be performed.
During a Pulpotomy the decay in the tooth is removed and the infected area of the nerve is also cleaned out. A special ‘dressing’ is applied to remove the pain from the tooth and the tooth is rebuilt, usually with a Kids Crown if the decay is extensive.
Pulpotomies have a good success rate if the infection is caught early and can prevent the early removal of baby teeth.
The Wand - Painfree Anesthesia
What is the Wand ?
The Wand is essentially a computer-controlled dental injection. The flow rate of the local anaesthetic is controlled by a computer. This means that the injection is guaranteed to be slow and steady and therefore comfortable.
Many people who have had a bad experience with injections think that needles sting because the skin is pierced, but this is usually not so. Mostly, the stinging sensation is caused by the anaesthetic being fired in too quickly.
The Wand is ideal for all patients, especially those who are afraid of injections. It looks similar to a ball point pen. It works by delivering a very slow, controlled dose of anesthesia for a pain free experience.
